7 Canva tricks to boost your designs

I've mentioned Canva in previous articles, but today I want to give this great design tool more focus. It not only streamlines the work of designers but also gives the opportunity to those who are not experts, to create graphic pieces easily and simply.

In this post, I'll share with you some "Canva" tricks to enhance your designs.

What is Canva?

For those who don't know it yet, " Canva" is a simplified graphic design tool, available for mobile phones by downloading the application or using it from the computer through its website.

Not only does it work for designers who need to streamline their tasks, but it can also be used by anyone without professional knowledge. Canva has more than 60 million photos and nearly 5 million vectors, graphics, and fonts.

Tools to boost your designs in Canva

  • Templates: ebooks, blogs, social networks, documents, events, inspiration, marketing material, agendas, headers, logos, etc.
  • Editing: photo straightener, photo effects, text balloons, crop photos, create compositions, blur, vignette effects, frames, grids, transparency, textures, etc.
  • It also has an infinite variety of fonts, thousands of stickers, animations, and icons that give more dynamism to your designs.

Free version or Canva Pro?

Canva Free is a very good option for those who are starting and require minimal design. With this version you will have available:

  • More than 250 thousand templates
  • More than 100 kinds of design
  • Thousands of photos and graphic elements
  • Possibility of teamwork

And in the Canva Pro version, which is the paid version, you can pay for a license $ 12.95 per month for a total of 5 people, that is, $ 2.59 per person per month. You have everything from the free version plus:

  • Visual brand identity
  • Magic Redemption
  • More than 420 thousand templates
  • More than 75 million visual assets
  • Logos and own fonts

Tricks to enhance your designs

  • Filters suitable for consistent branding

When uploading a photo or choosing from the same Canva library, be sure to select a filter that matches your brand or business colors and style. Remember that a filter has been a default effect so that your images look much cooler and you can make them original.

  • Play with fonts

Be careful with this, it should not be abused either. When I say "play" it is not to fill the image with rare fonts, use those that are legible, simple, and effective. Add different ones but they are from the same family and play with the size.

Use two different fonts that belong to the same family to make the phrase light and very comfortable to look at.

  • Duplicate to have multiple pages and follow the same line

Did you know that when you are creating a design within Canva you have the option to duplicate it? If possible. You can duplicate and then edit specific things like text, graphics, or photos. This also helps you test the same content but through different designs, so you can evaluate which one works best for you.

  • Originality despite thousands of templates

That's what we like the most about this tool, the variety of templates available. But the idea is not that you put them in your social profiles or works, as Canva presents it, change the colors, the distribution, and even the typography to make the design more original. Use their ideas to enhance yours but not to copy.

  • Create a mood board to get inspired

Not sure which color palette to use? Mood boards will help you create a sample board with all the visual elements that you would like to include in your designs, in order to have an idea of what you want to use.

  • Create various options and try different formats

The biggest advantage of Canva is that it allows you to save and re-edit the content you are designing. Then you can create something and convert it into other formats to make your job easier. I tell you how:

  1. In the window of your design, you go to the button at the top that says "Resize"
  2. There you will select the format you need (if you need several, you can customize it)
  3. Then a tab or several will open, depending on the sizes you need, where you will only have to adjust the content to adapt to the dimension of the new design
  • Add dynamism to your designs

A wave that moves or an arrow that indicates to rotate the image of the carousel on Instagram will make your design much more dynamic. In my case, it works a lot for me on Instagram stories when I upload content on a platform and I want them to slide to reach the page.

So, if you already use Canva, tell me what do you think about this valuable tool. 😉
